Enchainments

For runners that climb & climbers that run It's been a great realisation how the relative experiences of a runner and climber can produce a fantastic team to complement challenges that link up multiple routes - The runner can pick the best and fastest lines between the climbs and the climber can pick the most efficient line on the rock

We've been fortunate to have developed some great partnerships, and together with some uber inspiring people we are working through some elegant enchainment projects

Classic Rock: Great British Rock Climbs (Ken Wilson)

First published in 1978 this book presents a compilation of the best rock climbs in GB: comprising 55 chapters by acclaimed climber/writers who describe over 80 of the finest classic rock climbs in Britain.

The term 'classic' means popular, important and historic climbs in the easier grades. Most of these are among the most sought after and famous in the repertoire and selected from the five main climbing areas: The Peak and Pennines; North Wales; South West England; The Lake District and Scotland.

Linking the classic rock routes within 24 hours has historically been a popular challenge in the lakes, although very little history is available of 24 hour attempts in Snowdonia.

Snowdonia's classic rock climbs present an interesting challenge as a fast and light enchainment for an off-set project that Sarah and Libby will attempt to undertake in 2012.

Keep tuned for more info soon!

Copa Cerrig - Rocky Tops Snowdonia

The Copa Cerrig challenge was devised by a trio of running climbers as the perfect ‘fast and light through the mountains’ objective for runners who climb and climbers who run.

This Snowdonia "Rocky Tops" is an elegant enchainment that takes in the Welsh 1000m peaks (all five of them) with a climb or scramble on each one. 5 peaks and 5 climbs, each linked by a logical route that is a fell-runners dream. The route covers a distance of 25km with more than 3,000m of vertical ascent including over 1,000m of technical rock.

But the Copa Cerrig is much more than an endurancefest; it’s a grand journey through Snowdonia’s most majestic scenery, visiting the highest peaks by taking the finest ridges and the classic climbs.

We wanted to achieve the route in one day, so the clock was ticking! In doing so we needed to find a pace that was fast yet safe on this precipitous route, alternating between roped climbing and soloing then running as much as possible carrying all our gear in between.

It was a Welsh challenge of Alpine proportion.

  • Classic Rock - The Lakes

One day, 14 classic rock climbs

There are 14 classic rock climbs in the Lakes: Little Chamonix, Troutdale Pinnacle, Bowfell Buttress and the incredible Napes Needle to name but a few.

While there are fewer routes in the Lakes compared to Snowdonia the distance between the climbs is a little further, thereby presenting an interesting challenge to the runner to reccy the best and fastest 'line' between climbs.

This project is likely to be completed in 2013 but reccying will begin in 2012.
