The Glyderau

The long climb up to Elidir is pretty tough, so it's nice to plan a route with a few distractions in the scenery.

After warming up the legs with a little bit of flat ground and enjoying the views over the lake, the climb begins. The hot conditions were softened by the oak forest until we pop out to start the continual ascent up through the quarries.

Rand has quite a bit of experience on the fells, tackling the long climb with ease, and we made a good pace up to the summit of Elidir Fawr. A little roller coaster ride of summits, a brief session in tackling scree and rocky sections, then it was down to Ogwen to refuel and refill water, a priority in the heat.

Run scrambling

It's always nice to factor in some scrambling terrain to make the next big climb a little easier to handle.

Y Gribin Ridge is often nice and quiet and a lovely route to access the unique rocky plateau that houses Glyder Fach and Glyder Fawr. The hot conditions settled us into an easy trot, then it was back over Y Garn to Llanberis, via a hidden quarry path.

Overall a lovely day working with a dedicated runner who demonstrated both ambition and openness to learning new techniques.
