Owen's Guided Run

Starring: Owen Luke

Moel Hebog loop

Owen and his family were visiting Snowdonia for a few days & Owen's wife had booked him a run as a little present.

I know what it's like when you travel. I find it hard to relax until I've had my fix. Once I've had that lovely, long run and feel suitably knackered, I'm much more fun for everyone. I always love seeing families supporting each other's healthy obsessions. That wonderful part of a relationship where your other half 'gets it' even if they don't run so much themselves.

After a quick chat with the family, I pointed out to Owen's kids the first peak I was taking him up: the giant Moel Hebog. There was a dusting of snow and they seemed impressed. With the objective of making their dad look awesome achieved, Owen and I set off at a good pace. He had ample experience so I had the luxury of taking him over the wilder parts of the park.

Job not done

As we ran back through Beddgelert Forest, Owen looked just too fresh, so I suggested an extension of the route.

His objectives for the year involved doing a few hilly ultras so once we arrived back in Beddgelert I encouraged the addition of a run past Beddgelert's grave and up to Pen y gaer. The extra miles and ascent would nicely mimic the sort of pressures he would get in his races. By the final climb, I knew my job was done. The run back along the river consolidated it. He was suitably broken and mentioning cake by the time we rejoined his family.

Thanks, Owen for being fabulous company and for training so well. Another thoroughly enjoyable day at work.
