With a goal of climbing Everest next year, Carl is keen to improve his fitness. He contacted me to help improve his running as well as learn the right skills & techniques to run efficiently & safely in the mountains.

Up & down Yr Aran

Overshadowed by Snowdon, Yr Aran is often neglected, however, it's a wonderful peak and a great entry-level but challenging run for anyone wanting a little solitude as well as rewarding views.

After a brief kit check, Carl and I set off up the Watkins Path, maintaining a steady run until the sharp turn off heading up to Bwlch Cwm Llan. From there it's a fell run proper: trackless, rocky and steep climbing. Carl power-hiked the ascent but managed a run just prior to the summit. Great to see.

The descent down the east ridge of Yr Aran is a wonderful gradient, and Carl quickly developed confidence in loping down the ridge. A technical steep clamber was done back to the Watkins path, after which an easy run out was finished with a coffee and debrief on goals and training plans at the lovely Caffi Gwynant.
